takemehome

In collaboration with Dimitri Chamblas & Kim Gordon

Takemehome was born in Los Angeles, from the long hours that Dimitri Chamblas spent driving at night on his way back from a high-security prison located outside Hollywood where he leads workshops. Like the major metropolises of the world, LA has eliminated pedestrian traffic and with it, the misery and the underworld population that accompanied it. At night, this world of asphalt, barely illuminated, allows ghosts and strange silhouettes to sometimes emerge. Dimitri Chamblas envisions an entire imaginary world of human forms based on these absences, for which he convenes new fictions.

The art of capturing the art.

When it comes to capturing a choreography, there are two modes for me. One is just my pure appreciation for the art form of dance and the other is when a piece particularly touches me. Dimitri’s piece takemehome is one of those choreographies that reaches into my soul. Partly, most certainly, due to the inclusion of electric guitars and Kim Gordon’s presence within them. But also because of the pure emotive power of the performances within it.

I’ve seen the piece in Mexico, I’ve seen it in Qatar and I’ve seen it in Los Angeles. Though it has traveled far more extensively than I have, I feel an attachment to it, for having captured it evolve and become. Even though I feel intimate with it, after so many images captured, I still see new things in it every time. And it never fails to stir.
